You have the right to know what care will cost.

The No Surprises Act protects people from unexpected medical bills. One part of that law gives patients who are uninsured, or who choose not to use their insurance, the right to a Good Faith Estimate of the expected cost of non-emergency care.

You have the right to receive that estimate in writing, and to receive it before you schedule or at least a few business days before your appointment.

• The service you are expecting — for example, an initial acupuncture visit or a series of follow-up treatments.
• The expected charge for each item or service.
• A reasonable estimate of how many visits may be recommended, based on your consultation.
• The date the estimate was prepared.

An estimate is a good-faith projection, not a bill or a contract. Your plan of care may change as your body responds, and we will talk about it if it does.

• If you schedule at least three business days ahead, you will receive an estimate at least one business day before your visit.
• If you schedule at least ten business days ahead, you will receive it at least three business days before your visit.
• If you ask for one without scheduling, you will receive it within three business days of your request.

Simply ask. You can request a Good Faith Estimate by email or phone, or mention it during your free consultation, and I will send one in writing. You never have to justify the request, and asking will not affect your care.

Please keep a copy for your records, along with any bills you receive.

If you are billed at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you may dispute the bill through the federal patient–provider dispute resolution process. You generally must start that process within 120 calendar days of the date on the bill.

Before that, please talk with me. Most differences come from a change in the plan of care and can be sorted out in a conversation.
